Remember Me As a Trailblazer — I Ordered a 40 Inch Buss Down From Amazon Prime
Unexpected purchase on Amazon Prime
I'd like to think the typical Amazon cart contains household items, the occasional beauty buy, and dupes of all kinds. Me, no. My Saved for Later has range, baby — bursting at the seams with everything from big head-friendly snapback extenders to sneaker toe box crease protectors, Rothco cargos in every flavor, minimal vases, and hair weaves of all kinds.
Oh yes, in case you didn’t know Amazon Prime has quite the assortment of clip-ins and lacefronts. There’s a lot on the platform so I start my search on YouTube and follow the girlies’ links to make life easier.
There comes a time in a woman’s life when the standard 20, 26, or 28 inch wig just doesn’t cut it. Maybe it’s my Houston-heavy algorithm, but the time was absolutely right to explore the lengths reserved for the population of female rappers, thankfully Amazon (and their very forgiving return policy) had just what the doctor ordered.
Something as coveted as a 40 inch buss down should be reserved for actual hair vendors, anything else is a marked risk. But with a trip on the books and time constraints, I couldn’t take the chance that the hair wouldn’t make it in time. One page dubbed LOVEVOL had exactly what I needed and made it to my house overnight. The wig clocked in at around 400 bucks, though similar styles are start at about $800 and go up into the thousands.
When it comes to cheap wigs, a rule of thumb is to manipulate it as little as possible. I threw that out the window and went so far as to cut it into a V-part anddd color it. It took the color well, there was minimal shedding, and after some quick cornrows it was on my head and ready to roll.
But Did it Give?
Accuracy: I’d start by giving the hair a strong 8 for actually measuring 40 inches but I’m taking a point off since it claimed to be a 180% density and I’d say it was more like a 150%. I also do not believe it is 100% human hair and is more of a blend of human and synthetic, another point docked. To be fair, the blend hasn't been an issue, but don’t think you’ll get a natural wave if you air dry. Nope.
Tangling: For me, any long straight hair has to be babied. That means getting out of your car? Run a brush through it. Sit on a couch with your hair between your back and the cushions? Run your hands through it real quick. So yeah, it's labor intensive but not more so than other more expensive hair I have purchased. The length intensifies the need for babying, but the hair itself is fine. I'll give it an 8 in this category.
Texture: I’d give the texture a 10, it’s a typical Indian hair silkiness with a fair amount of sheen.
Would I buy it again? Yes…but shorter.
