We Talk About Bruno (A Lot)

I can't count the number of times I've seen Encanto. I have every line memorized so it's been a lot.

This movie has infiltrated my life completely. My husband and I now read think pieces and head cannons about the film. It is truly a fantastic film. The new Disney movies hit different and Encanto is digital perfection.

Why do I love this movie so much? Let me list the ways.

• The cultural accuracy is amazing - the complexity of the family dynamic and Hispanic culture is so well portrayed.

• The physical range of the characters is so rich. The different body types. The spectrum of skin colors and hair textures. *chef's kiss*

• The music is incredible. I wake up regularly with Surface Pressure playing in my head. I love the authentic Colombian instruments!

• The plot is about so much more than a fairy tale love story. While there is magic, there is no villain, no monster. Resolution comes when generational trauma is addressed.

I won't mind screentime as much if Disney keeps producing movies of this quality because know my son will be learning the right lessons - not trying to kiss a Sleeping Beauty that needs to be rescued!
