Anal August is the new Hot Girl Summer

Get that lube ready.

We almost made it through the entire month without talking about our favorite holiday - Anal August. GASP – did we just say anal? Yes, we did. And it is no longer a word used to describe your uptight coworker or that one thing you did with that bartender (only for a second) in the shower.

Anal sex is something that everyone can partake in, from novices to seasoned experts regardless of sexual orientation. And before the month is over, we want to share some amazing tips from our favorite adult store, Babeland, and introduce everyone to some quick tips that they are calling “Booty Basics.” Now dive right into your first Anal August (preferably with lube).

_________

  1. Why should you try anal?

There are tons of nerve endings around and inside of the anus, which means HELLA pleasure. There are tons of ways to put anal on the menu from light finger play, to pegging, to solo play and (of course) masturbation. Also, internally there is a G Spot or prostate that can be stimulated from the inside...mmhmm.

  1. How do you know when you're doing it right?

Well, in short – it should feel good to you. It is a misconception that anal sex is and always will be painful – that is simply not true! Nothing should ever be painful when it comes to sex (unless that's your preference). There are tons of ways to make your first go at anal more comfortable. Try using lube, smaller toys, and then sizing up once you get more adventurous. Make it fun – take a trip to an adult store with your partner and shop around. Also, don’t be scared to move your body when it is happening – everyone is different. Keep reading for our favorite anal toys and lubes to try.

Speaking of Lube…

NEWSFLASH -your anus does not lubricate itself like the vagina so be sure to take good care of dat ass and lubricate it before anything goes into it. This not only eliminates friction but some can be quite pleasurable and prevent small tears– OUCH. There are 3 kinds of lubricants so be sure to check if you have allergies:

  • Oil-based lubricants - Baby oil, mineral oils, petroleum jellies, or hand creams are easily found around the house, but they can damage the latex in condoms (meaning that they are more likely to break). Know that they have no FDA oversight or quality control for lubricant use and can degrade while sitting on shelves. This oxidative damage can, in turn, interfere with embryo development and damage sperm.

  • Water-based lubricants - These are the most common type of lubricants. There are lots of different brands, but ones designed to mimic fertile cervical mucus with lower salt concentration than many leading lubricants are less likely to irritate sensitive skin, have no taste, and feel like natural lubrication so it doesn’t interfere with oral sex or other types of sex play.

  • Silicone-based lubricants - This type of lubricant lasts longer than water-based varieties and is usually safe to use with condoms. Premium silicone-based lubes are designed not to dry out quickly and stay slick longer than other kinds of lubricants, plus they can leave your skin feeling soft and smooth.

Don’t Rush it.

Give yourself some time– warm up. I wouldn’t go full-on monster dildo if it's not something you have tried before. Your body tends to tense up when something new is happening so you will need to properly loosen up your muscles and relax before. Light a candle, play some mood music, get your sexy on, and let your body adjust. Here are some ways you can start:

  • Start with a massage and move into some oral rimming - which means some light licking around the desired area.

  • Start small - Then you can move into small anal beads or plugs. Babeland has put together some training kits, take a look!

  • Communication! You have to talk to your partner. Say what works, say what doesn't work. It's your body, you should enjoy what is happening to it, and making one's partner comfortable is key. There is no greater turn-on than seeing your partner get lost in pleasure!

Choose your accouterments wisely.

Not every toy is for you. You should make sure that anything you are using feels right for your body and not every toy is right for anal. Anal toys should have a flared base so it does not get pulled into your body. Your anus is a tight muscle that retracts and can pull a toy up and in it, so beware! We don’t want anyone taking a very awkward trip to the emergency room.
