10 dead, 10 injured in Monterey Park, California during Lunar New Year celebrations
Many are wondering what caused the now deceased gunman to open fire at 2 separate Lunar New Year celebrations
The tragedy that took place this weekend during the Lunar New Year celebration in Monterey Park is weighing heavily on us all.
The mass shooting took place on January 21st at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park, California. 10 victims, all of whom were over the age of 50 were pronounced dead at the scene. At least 10 more are injured.
At this time, it is not known if the victims were targeted by the 72-year-old suspected gunman, who was identified Sunday evening. The suspect has died following a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A separate shooting at the Lai Lai Ballroom & Studio occurred less than a half hour after the shooting in Monterey Park, where the gunman was disarmed by two community members attending the celebration.
The city of Monterey Park is offering a vigil tonight, January 23rd at 7 pm to honor and remember the victims at Monterey Park City Hall.
This memorial is open to the public, and there is a new Survivor Resource Center at Monterey Park’s Langley Senior Center for anyone in need of support.
Our hearts are with the victims and their families during this time of mourning.
